Aggressive Breeds

"Attention, America, or at least all you state and local politicians who are banning or considering banning ownership of pit bulls, Rottweilers and other big, scary dogs: In the midst of your rush to pass breed specific legislation, a new study has shown that the most aggressive dog breed in the world is ...

Yes, the dachshund, the weiner dog, better known in some countries as the sausage dog.

This vicious beast, despite enjoying a good reputation, is at the very top of a list of 33 dog breeds that were rated for their aggression in a study that analyzed the behavior of thousands of dogs.

One in five dachshunds have bitten or tried to bite strangers; about one in five have attacked other dogs, and one in 12 have snapped at their owners, according to the study, which was reported in the London Telegraph."

GREAT ARTICLE! I've owned different breeds of dogs. What I have found is that many times, the genetics and also owners can make a huge difference in the behavior traits of a dog. I've had a German Shepherd that was docile as a lamb. On the other hand, I've had a Miniature Pinscher that at times would growl aggressively. Currently, my shibas exhibit traits that go against type. They are loving, affectionate, behave wonderfully. Yes! they do SHED big time. This article was great - sometimes we fear the wrong dog. Pre-conceived judgments can blur our thinking. Dogs are "people," too!

you know, I had a siberian husky which is listed on every apartment
community
s "banned" list.

a dog, any dog, regardless of breed, is only as bad or good as the people who own them.

my wergei is the biggest baby you'll ever find, he would not, and has proven it, harm a child of any age. as a matter of fact, his is most sensitive to small children.

breeds should not be discriminated against. I had a wolf/husky hybrid that was the best, most loyal, loving dog anyone could ever own.

discriminating against breeds is like saying "ah, you can't live here because you're black or puerto rican"

love the dog and the dog loves you.

treat a dog with respect and the dog treats you with respect.

know right from wrong and the dog knows right from wrong.

a dog is only as bad as its owner.

Thank you both for commenting. I agree completely. I'm in the process of looking for a new place to live and it's amazing that hardly anybody wants pets. I agree that any dog is only as bad or good as their owner.
It's a sad situation.
