Animals: Internet Scams
"The fact that there are so many homeless dogs and cats is a sad thing to ponder. If you are like me (and a few humans I know) a trip to the local pound can be a heart breaking experience.
With so many unwanted animals in the world, it amazes me that anyone would buy an animal. Nonetheless for whatever reason, people do and the result is a lot of abuse and a fair amount of scam activity, especially when the "I word" (Internet) is involved."

Nevada Humane Society
"So in getting to know me...one major detail is how passionate I am about animals. Wild or domestic, it doesn't matter to me. In turn, I wanted to remind you that adopting an animal.... could be the best decision you will ever make!
I am a volunteer at the Nevada Humane Society, located on Longley Lane near Rock Blvd. It is amazing how many animals they take in, how many get adopted, and how well the staff and volunteers take care of the pets. And we have fun! The dogs get out multiple times a day, in both the backyard and taken to local parks. And the cats have colonies, where they are open to the outside (screened in, of course), have condos to climb, and warm beds to sleep in. Yes, there are those that stay in kennels, but we have over 650 volunteers, and if you can imagine all of us socializing with the animals daily, that's a lot of love these little guys and girls get!
We have lots of animals, from dogs and cats, to birds and rabbits! They are up for adoption, usually with a fee of $50 for dogs and cats, and the others vary. However, there are always specials going on. All of our pets are fixed and vaccinated before they are even put up for adoption. We started a goal of creating a No Kill Community a year ago, and continually work diligently to develop life saving programs. We work side by side with Washoe County Regional Animal Services and all the many wonderful animal rescue organizations across the state."

Congressional Friends Of Animals
"The Congressional Friends of Animals (CFA) Caucus is a bipartisan congressional organization that raises awareness within Congress on animal welfare issues. It was founded in 1989 and is co-chaired by Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA).
The CFA organizes forums and briefings for Members of Congress and their staff on issues affecting animals and upcoming animal welfare legislation formed around the interests and needs of the members. CFA also tracks legislation and provides members of Congress with reliable, up-to-date information. Because the membership covers a wide spectrum of beliefs, the CFA does not write policy papers or produce issue briefs. The organization has achieved success in building coalitions among members on specific animal protection bills. CFA members have used the organization to help promote animal welfare issues of particular interest to them and their constituents."

Please Help The Wolves
"After more than a decade of conservation efforts and millions of federal dollars, wolves are finally returning to the northern Rockies.
Now, the Bush administration plans to remove wolves from the Endangered Species List and allow the states of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana to wipe out nearly 80 percent of all the wolves remaining in the Northern Rockies!
The Wyoming Plan allows anyone to kill any wolf that wanders outside a small area in the northwest corner of the state. The plan would even target animals that live for most of the year in Yellowstone National Park but only wander out in the winter in search of food.
Tell Congress to oppose the Bush administrations plans and make sure wolves are protected in the northern Rockies!"

Animal Casualties
"The unseen casualties of the nation's war are being warehoused in animal shelters, waiting for someone to rescue them.
Some animal-rescue groups in the state say they are seeing an increase in pets abandoned at shelters by soldiers deployed overseas."
"The Urban Pets Dog Blog was created to provide a forum where dog lovers could post comments and stories related to dogs, dog health, dog and pet rescue and everything in between because at Urban Pets, it's all about the dog. Have a dog related story to share with the world, post and link it here!"
