Homing The Homeless

I found a new (to me) blog yesterday and love it. It's a blog about homeless animals and helping them get adopted but there's so much more.

There's information on reasons to adopt adult shelter dogs, adopting a rescue dog, and an adoption gallery. Such sweet faces.

Check out the word-of-blog network and the link exchange. You won't be disappointed.

This newspaper in Chattanooga, Tn. has an interesting article also.

"Tennessee’s worst animal abusers could have their names, address and photos posted on a state Web site, much like convicted sex offenders, if state legislators approve.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote Tuesday on the Tennessee Animal Abuser Registration, Tracking and Verification Act of 2008."

I hope they vote the way I would.

Thank you for commenting. Many thanks for the link back.

Blogging is hard work but I do this one out of love so it doesn't feel like work at all.

Yes, thanks so much for your work on this blog and for helping to raise awareness to the important work of rescuing animals.

Unfortunately, there are some out there who think it is OK to diminish efforts to rescue lost and homeless pets in order to further their own agenda. I recently came across a lost dog flyer that had on it pictures of a dalmatian and pleas to help find him. But the number on the flyer actually connected me to a recorded phone message that was a pitch to drink Miller Lite beer. I guess it is related to their television ads that feature dals, but it really upset me on a number of levels. How many people will refrain from helping find a lost pet because they got burned by this promotion? And what is the Miller company saying about the work of rescue organizations and people working hard to rescue animals?

I'm sorry for venting here, it just really upset me. But please keep up the great work on your blog and thank you, thank you, thank you for fighting the good fight!

Jason, thank you for venting. This is important for people to know. It is also terribly heartless and cruel. If Miller did that they should be ashamed. What's next? Call about a missing child and get a pitch to drink beer?

that is just awful. would it be possible to get more info on this miller ad campaign? i think they should be informed of how cruel it is to market their products at the expense of many animals that are actually lost out there...

siyerwin, I'd love to have more info. I wonder if Miller is behind this or somebody who is just helping them? I'll post if I find news.

Thanks for commenting.

jericho and siyerwin,

I called the number again just to make sure, and it is definitely Miller, as it says at the end that it is brought to you or paid for by Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

But the opening line is the worst part. It says: "Thank you for calling the headquarters of the dalmatian rescue, where we're dedicated to saving dalmatians and beer drinkers everywhere ..."

The number, if you want to call, is 877-SAV-SPOT (877-728-7768).

To be honest, hearing the message again made me even more upset.

Is there a good way to share this information with other bloggers and rescue organizations to generate some attention so that Miller knows they've gone a bit over the line here?
